Trash Picked Maytag Model A882 Washer

March 15th, 2010

I found this in the trash this morning with intentions of scrapping it, but i made an exemption since it was an old Maytag. So far it works great with no leakage! Their was also a Kennmore dryer in the same trash too, but that one was a royal piece of shit. I think what happened was the dryer died, and the people who owned this washer replaced the pair. Sorry i said seal leak. I meant drum seal.

I was wondering why new Maytags look like Whirlpools…I was on there site looking for info on my old washer and they do not include any of the GOOD maytags in there search “Must have six digit model number”

Sure sounds like Whirlpool right there.

You did good to find one of these in the trash! Here you’ve get classic Maytag Quality matched with the (then) brand new Dependable drive transmission which ran in all newer Maytag washers right up until Maytag’s brink of destruction. This is when Maytag started mixing parts with less reliable brand mates which many feel ran them right out of business. No theres no more Maytags today. A few years ago Whirlpool bought the name and they stamp it on half of their products sold today. 2 bad Maytag!

So true So true!! I don’t know why Maytag didn’t just stick with their dependable drivetrains like the one featured here and even the model before this one.

Wow!! We have 5 first year Neptunes throughout our family and they all work flawlessly. We really love em!! I convinced 3 family friends to buy one a few years later and they love theirs!! I don’t know why everyone gives the Neptune such a bad wrap

i’m taking about applicences in general

  16. craig1974 Says:

Yeah then Maytag made the Neptune washer which was the biggest pile of shit in history.

  17. TheCubanMan728 Says:

see in the old days you would buy an appliance and it would last for 20 years.. now the new ones die like in 2 years!

  18. wilkes85 Says:

Awesome washer. I’m sure that thing will outlast any new piece of shit being made today.

usually the people who throw things like that in the garbage are ignorant.

If you tell me the last two letters of the serial number I can give you the manufactures date, and it was most likely was sold with in 2 to 5 months of that date.

The A series washers were the best ones produced back in the 70’s to the 90’s. To bad that Maytag got a CEO from Whirlpool to help them, that guy pretty much screwed Maytag when he had them buy Amana, and Speedqueen. That’s what put Maytag out of business because they were using parts from Amana’s laundry equipment, which was junk.

Yeah i picked up 4 bikes to resell this week. One 1972 Schwinn Suburban for $8.00, one Schwinn Letour tall roadbike for $30.00 at a local estate, one Schwinn Frontier for $5.00, and one Trek 700 Hybrid for $50.00 at a moving sale. I already fixed the Frontier, and the Trek Hybrid im selling AS-IS. The Trek only needs handgrips, and that one will be gone by next week i predict. The washer is pending pick up tommarow, and a down payment has already been made. Sold for $60.00

  23. ToberMcGee Says:

I have been giving a lot of thought to buying “junk” and reselling it in functional state.

I enjoy fixing things up and think it would be a good way for me to make a simple living.

This town offers a lot of valuable stuff that can be used if it were given a little care.

  24. craig1974 Says:

“Yea, I got my work clothes in there”
